I believe Tai Chi / Qigong will be very beneficial for school children within the Well being Program.
These benefits are:
- Promotes calmness, enhances memory and concentration.
- Restoring balance from the stresses and strains of modern life.
- Maintaining harmony in body and mind.
- The practise improves strength, coordination, balance & flexibility.
- Reduces stress, anxiety, depression & self-harm.
- Improves balance and stability by strengthening core, legs, ankles and knees.
- Strengthens ligaments and builds bone density.
- It is a very old martial art, that when practiced has many benefits.
- The real magic of Tai Chi is the ability to balance and increase (qi) flow between the organs and around the body. It works in much the same way as Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine.
- Most importantly, Tai Chi is fun to practice. It’s a great social activity and provides participants with a strong feeling of inner peace and serenity in their lives.
It also meets the following ACARA focus areas of the Health and Physical Education Curriculum from Foundation – Year 10.
- Health benefits of physical activity (HBPA)
- Mental health and wellbeing (MH)
- Relationships (RS)
- Safety (S)
- Active play and minor games (AP)
- Fundamental movement skills (FMS)
- Lifelong physical activities (LLPA)
- Rhythmic and expressive movement activities (RE).
